We Say No to Canal Istanbul!

we-say-no-to-canal-istanbul We don’t accept and will never accept this environmental massacre and this lawlessness.

Referring to the court proceedings the Association for Supporting Contemporary Living started at
the 10 the administrative court in Istanbul for the ‘’invalidation of the positive Environmental Impact
Assessment’’ of the Canal Istanbul Project an investigation was carried out to form the basis of an expert opinion report that would be prepared to assess the negative environmental impact of the Canal Istanbul Project. ÇYDD Vice President Adv. Sedat Durna, and Adv. Volkan Yalçınkaya and Adv. Özge Demir from the ÇYDD Headquarters Legal Unit took part in the investigation.

The investigation lasted a whole day and the work brought to light that, should the canal be built,
the forests, water basins, agricultural fields, and grasslands that comprise Istanbul’s life support
systems would perish; the Sazlıdere dam which is one of the most important water sources for
Istanbul and the Küçükçekmece Lake would be lost. Natural living environments and ecosystems
would be destroyed with no chance of recovery. Valuable agricultural terrain would be put up for
development and financial gain which is the real reason behind this mega project.

We don’t accept and will never accept this environmental massacre and this lawlessness!

The region’s inhabitants are also against the Canal Istanbul Project. This canal can’t be financed with
the taxes paid by the people who don’t want the canal.

We sincerely inform the community!
