WE ARE PROUD!

Transparency International declared that  the Association for Supporting Contemporary Life (ÇYDD) won the Transparency Award in the category of ‘public institution’ with its close to 30 years of inspirational work in  the fields of education and securing political, social and economic rights for women.

ÇYDD became the recipient of the Transparency Award which is given to support the fight against corruption; to broaden desirable management principles such as transparency, honesty and accountability and to support individual or institutional enterprise and activities.

As one of the oldest and most respected associations, ÇYDD was singled out for its practice of transparency, accountability and control when carrying out its important work, for its detailed reporting of donations and for sharing data and information on the financial structure of its projects. At a time when improper use of social assistance for political gain has become commonplace and systematic, ÇYDD works to create awareness and to strengthen those at a disadvantage. We are immensely encouraged to continue on our chosen path by descriptions of the following nature: “The care ÇYDD shows to uphold transparency and accountability sets an example for other foundations and associations.”

At the awards ceremony held at the Nazım Hikmet Cultural Center, ÇYDD’s award was presented by the Transparency International Executive Committee President E. Oya Özarslan to the ÇYDD President Prof. Dr. Ayşe Yüksel.

With her thank you speech, Dr. Ayşe Yüksel expressed that ÇYDD won many awards during its 30 year existence and that they all made the association very proud, however, receiving the ‘transparent institution’ award was extremely meaningful. She indicated that it was Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan who led ÇYDD to this award. One of the virtues the association acquired thanks to Saylan was to be transparent. The Executive Committee and all the people that work for ÇYDD try to continue to be so.

In the ‘media’ category investigative journalist Murat Ağırel was the winner of the Transparency Award. In the ‘public institution-private sector’ category the recipient was Ünsped Gümrük Müşavirliği (Customs Consultancy). In the ‘citizen/civil enterprise’ category the winner was ÇYDD Denizli Branch scholarship student, ÇYDD Gaziantep Branch member and Council member of the Gaziantep Şahinbey Municipality, Uğur Kalkan.  In the ‘youth’ category, Middle Eastern Technical University graduate student Övünç Ertunç and his team mates from universities abroad, Orçun Gümüş and Ahmet Bağlan were the winners.

Transparency International Executive Committee President E. Oya Özarslan told the gathering the following: “Transparency awards are a show of support for creating a better, cleaner and fairer world. With these awards, support and appreciation is shown towards the activists, journalist, citizens, civil enterprise and institutions that work selflessly for democracy, transparency and good management.  On December 9th, the International Anti-Corruption Day, we called on everybody to raise their voices in solidarity against corruption we can encounter anywhere and in any environment.”

As ÇYDD we are very Happy! Proud!

We aim to work even harder. We know that we will make no concessions to not being transparent as we continue to work harder.
