ÇYDD celebrates with enthusiasm the 100th anniversary of the Lausanne Peace Treaty which is the
sovereignty and full independence document of our modern, secular and democratic Turkey.
At the end of the course of events that started with the European States declaring the Ottoman
Empire as a "sick man" and deciding to share its lands at the Vienna Congress in 1815, the Treaty of
Lausanne ensured the proclamation and the recognition by the sovereign states of the world of the
independent state to be established by the Turkish Nation, which resisted for its homeland, started
and won the War of Independence.
When the Lausanne negotiations began, İsmet Pasha's objection to the fact that the chair set for him
in the first session was lower than the others and that he asserted to the British Foreign Minister
Lord Curzon, who tried to pass this off as insignificant, "We will meet on equal terms, we will sit at
equal heights" summarizes the whole process.
In Lausanne, the great soldier and statesman İsmet İnönü and the Turkish delegation resisted with
the conviction, patience and strength of being in the right and largely gained what they wanted at
the treaty table.
From the point of view of the history of international law, the Lausanne Peace Treaty is one of the
rare texts that have survived from the twentieth century to the present day. Like the Turkish War of
Independence, the Lausanne Peace Treaty set an example for oppressed nations. The current
regional and global developments, tensions and conflicts between states require us to protect the
achievements of the Lausanne Peace Treaty and the Montreux Straits Convention more than ever.
On the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Lausanne Peace Treaty, which imposed our national
independence on the imperialist powers after our War of Independence, we commemorate our
eternal leaders Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and İsmet İnönü with respect.
ÇYDD will continue to work for a secular, democratic, fully independent and modern Turkey based
on the rule of law in line with the founding principles of our state.
We respectfully announce to the public.
