The 12th Türkân Saylan Art and Science Awards were presented at the 13th Türkân Saylan Commemoration Ceremony held at İş Sanat Kültür Merkezi- İş Arts Culture Center.

This year Prof. Dr. Deniz Ceylan received the science award for studies in psychiatry and Gaye Boralıoğlu won the art award with her book titled Alâmetler Kitabı.

The Association for Supporting Contemporary Living (ÇYDD) members and youth were present at the ceremony together with Saylan followers in great numbers. The presenter of the ceremony Berna Laçin indicated ‘’Today we are gathered to commemorate a true woman of the Republic, Prof. Dr. Türkân Saylan, who enlightened us along the path paved by Atatürk. I am very happy and honored to have been given the duty to be the presenter and I wish that our cooperation will last many years.’’

The ceremony started with the showing of the documentary prepared for commemorating Prof. Dr. Türkân Saylan with the people and the youth telling their thoughts about how ÇYDD touched their lives.  

The ÇYDD President Prof. Dr. Ayşe Yüksel shared with the audience how things developed and how a good fight was put up against all adversity all through the contemporary living journey that has been going on for 33 years.  Dr. Yüksel continued to say, ‘’When Türkân Hodja started as a physician dedicated to science and the values of the Contemporary Republic, her first accomplishment was to give hope and to heal leprosy patients.  After the hearing, she brightened their future by giving support for their education.  During this time, she saw that girls weren’t being sent to school.  Always working with the thought ‘to be a part of the solution, not the problem’, she provided the opportunity for girls to get educated.  Today, with precious support from our supporters, ÇYDD has given scholarships to 104 000 girls. With what we have learned from Türkân Hodja, we continue to work for our youth and our children, for a Contemporary Turkey.  Türkân Saylan you are always with us.’’

The Science Academy (Bilim Akademisi) President Prof. Dr. Canan Atılgan presented the 12^th Türkân Saylan Science Award to Koç university psychiatry researcher Doç. Dr. Deniz Ceylan.  ÇYDD Vice-President Lale Platin presented the Art Award to Gaye Boralıoğlu for her book Alâmetler Kitabı. The selection committee for the Art Award was comprised of ÇYDD President Prof. Dr. Ayşe Yüksel, Committee Head Turhan Günay, Sezer Ateş Ayvaz, Nursel Duruel, Birsen Ferahlı, Mehmet Zaman Saçlıoğlu and Ayşe Sarısayın.  

Young pianist Barış Kosku’s piano recital concluded the ceremony.
