Collective Dormitory for Female Students

collective-dormitory-for-female-students Collaborative Support for a Dormitory for Female Students by ÇYDD and the Bornova Municipality in Izmir

A protocol has been signed between The Association for Supporting Contemporary Living (ÇYDD) and the Bornova Municipality to work collaboratively to provide accommodation for 300 female students.

The new dormitory with its capacity of 300 beds and 90 independent sections will provide much-needed accommodation for a high number of students in the Bornova district with its university.  Socio-economically disadvantaged female ÇYDD students coming to Izmir to attend school will have the advantage too easily traveling to their schools and city centers.  They will also have help in this place to reorganize their social lives.

Bornova Municipality Dramalılar Mansion and the City Archives Museum hosted the signing ceremony.   Bornova Mayor Dr. Mustafa İduğ, ÇYDD Vice Presidents Lale Platin and Adv. Sedat Durna, İzmir Industrialists and Business People Association (İZSİAD) Advisory Committee member Ayhan Baran attended the ceremony.  ÇYDD İzmir, Karşıyaka, Güzelbahçe, Urla and Seferihisar Branch presidents, administrators and members; Fenerbahçe Sports Club former goalie Berke Özer were also present.

“EVERYTHING DONE FOR EDUCATION IS VERY VALUABLE”

Bornova Mayor Dr. Mustafa İduğ spoke about the dormitory that is planned to be put to use for the 2023-2024 academic year and he said, I would like to congratulate everyone who follows in the footsteps of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and Türkân Saylan.  He said, ‘’Everything done for education is very valuable.  I am grateful to everyone who has worked on the matter at hand.   I could cry for joy about it because there are too many female students in this country who can’t benefit from the blessings life can offer.  I am in a position to exercise positive discrimination.  People from all around Turkey call me about their daughters that have succeeded in the university exams but can’t find a solution to their accommodation needs.  Our ÇYDD President has been listening to similar pleas on this matter.  Here in Bornova, we increased our dormitory capacity from 70 to 150 people.  Was this enough? Certainly not. The country’s population is 83 million.  More than 20\% are students.  Half of them were female students.  In Izmir, there are 240 000 thousand university students.  In all of Turkey the number of students that continue until their senior year in high school is 16 million and 8 million of them are female students. We would like our cooperation with ÇYDD to set an example for millions of people in Turkey. As long as there are sensitive and helpful people giving us their support we will arrive at a desirable point. I wish our cooperation to be beneficial. As a local administration, we find cooperation between organizations very important. I thank you all for placing your trust in us.  ÇYDD exalted and honored us with its attempt.’’

‘’FINDING ACCOMMODATION IS THE BIGGEST PROBLEM’’

ÇYDD Vice President Lale Platin thanked Mayor İduğ and she said, ’’Today is a very exciting day.  We are together once again after a long time and collaboratively we are constructing for our girls not just a building but also a home.  This allows us to begin to solve the biggest problem in education, the problem of not having sufficient accommodation. We are preparing a home for 300 female students.  We will hopefully be together for the opening also. I bring you salutations from our Ayşe Yüksel Hodja, our President.’’

‘’WE ARE READY TO CARRY THROUGH WHAT IS EXPECTED OF US’’

İZSİAD Advisory Committee Member Ayhan Baran spoke at the ceremony and said that with close to 100 people at İZSİAD they had been collecting whatever amount they could put together each month for the past 5 years and donating it to the ÇYDD İzmir Branch to provide scholarships for the students.  Baran continued to say, ‘’We are very happy as people who uphold Republic’s values that we are moving towards a bright future in today’s Turkey together with ÇYDD and our dear presidents.  We are starting something very special today. We are going to start the new building for 300 female students. We are going to soon start the first section. We are ready.  I am very excited. We are going to work in an exemplary environment with an exemplary project. We are very happy to be contributing to this project.

We are ready to carry through what is expected of us.  İZSİAD will build one floor of the girls’ dormitory for 300 students.’’
