Cagdas Yasami Destekleme Dernegi commemorated its unforgettable President Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan with a magnificent ceremony on the 16th anniversary of her passing. The night, where memories of Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan, who left a lasting mark on society with her work in the fields of education and health, were shared, also found the 15th Türkan Saylan Science and Art Awards. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdal Sağ was deemed worthy of the 15th Contemporary Life Science Award for his original work in the field of pediatric rheumatology, while the art award went to author Derya Sönmez with her work titled “Other Animals.”

The unforgettable General President of CYDD, Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan, was remembered by her loved ones and the Cagdas Yasam family on Saturday, May 17, on the 16th anniversary of her passing. The commemoration ceremony, which started at Türkan Saylan’s grave in Zincirlikuyu, continued at İş Sanat Culture Center, İş Kuleleri Levent. The night was attended by ÇYDD General President Prof. Dr. Ayşe Yüksel, ÇYDD Board Members, branch representatives, many people from the world of science, art and education, as well as Türkan Saylan’s students and loved ones. The winners of the 15th Science and Art Awards held in memory of Türkan Saylan were also announced during the night.

The Türkan Saylan Commemoration Night began with the opening speech of CYDD General President and Saylan’s companion Prof. Dr. Ayşe Yüksel. Emphasizing in her speech that they will continue to follow Saylan’s footsteps and work to realize her dreams, Yüksel said, “Our teacher Türkan dedicated her life to a contemporary future. She worked tirelessly so that our youth could access secular and scientific education and look to the future with hope. She saw education and art as the most important elements leading to a bright future. Every branch of art was very important to her, she wanted children to study, play the piano, and raise the Fazıl Says of the future. It is a good thing that Türkan Saylan has passed from this world, she always referred to herself as  ‘’Atatürk’s Daughter’’, she worked to develop the secular Republic of Turkey, which was his legacy, and to keep it alive forever. She believed that every educated woman owed a debt to the Republic, and even with her last breath, she would shine to pay her debt. May her soul rest in peace. She is always with us.’’

Following the speech of President Yüksel, the winners of the 15th Science and Art Awards were announced. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erdal Sağ was deemed worthy of the award in the field of science for his original work in the field of pediatric rheumatology and his contributions to science, while Derya Sönmez, who addressed the dark side of relationships and the human soul in her work titled “Other Animals”, was deemed worthy of the award in the field of art.

The event ended with a musical recital by the first choristers of the Dostlar Choir founded by Ruhi Su, led by conductor Yusuf Başaran.
